And Then I Found You

Title: And Then I Found You
Author: Patti Callahan Henry
Genre: Romance
Time: 3.1 hours
Rating: 7 out of 10

It started out as a cute puppy love thing between Kate and Jack But then Jack had to move.  What is it with “forever love/soulmate” stories with the boy moving away in high school?  Same thing happened in Where Rainbows End.  But in this case, the couple did the whole long distance relationship thing.

Everything was fine until Kate decided she wanted to do this wildlife counselling thing.  I mean, that was fine.  Jack was supportive, he waited.  But when one person just gives and gives and gives and the other one just takes and takes and takes, there will come a time where the other person will just get fed up on being taken for granted.  I was annoyed at Kate.  I mean, what did she expect?  She disappeared on him and he has been patient and understanding.  But a person can only wait for so long.  I was like, you have no right to be all whiny and depressed as you chose this, you caused this,

It was harder for me to understand the adoption thing, though.  I always thought you go the adoption route as the last choice when you know you cannot raise your kid because you don’t any financial or emotional support.  In this case, the parents were more than willing to help out, even offered to raise the kid.  But what do I know.  You can never really say what is best for other people.  That is why I am pro-choice.

The kid, Emily/Luna, eventually finds them.  And this triggers the two somewhat estranged ex-es to reunite.  Past hurts are revisited, old wounds re-opened… poor Rowan, he doesn’t stand a chance.  You know that Kate and Jack are supposed to end up together.  It is only a matter of time before Rowan will be kicked out of the picture.

How Does It End?

WARNING!!! SPOILERS AHEAD!! READ THIS TO UNDERSTAND THIS PART OF THE POST.

After Luna/Emily finds them and they (Kate, her family and Jack) start an online relationship but the adoptive mother put the kibosh on that since it might not be healthy for Emily/Luna (especially with her running away to live with Jack) and perhaps resume it when she’s 18 and mature enough to handle that relationship.  For a while, Kate and Jack stopped speaking to each other because Jack doesn’t want the people in his life (parents, Maggie and his son) to know that he had a daughter 13 years ago.  Kate and Rowan break up.  Rowan eventually finds another girlfriend.  After an appropriate period, Jack realizes he loves Kate and that he made a mistake so he shows up at her doorstep on Emily’s/Luna’s birthday.  They get married (with Luna/Emily present) and Kate moves to Birmingham to manage Jack’s art studio.
