2015 Book Challenge:
a book that came out the year you were born
Took a while to find a book for this challenge coz it’s hard
to find books published more than 30 years ago floating around these days. I think this was reprinted, so I guessed it
means this book is so good that it stood the test of time.
This book is of those cooking novels where there are recipes
included in the book. Not really into
these as I’m quite useless in the kitchen. Although, a few years, ago I was hooked on
Diane Mott Davidson’s books but I think it was more for the mystery rather than
the cooking angle.
The story wasn’t really action packed, meaning not much
really happened in the book. She
basically found out her husband cheated on her (while 7 months preggo) so she flew
to New York but decided to give it one more try but then decided it was not
worth it and left for good. The rest of
the book is filled with anecdotes, some not really related to the major story
arc and the rest background stories for the recipes the narrator shared. It felt like the book was more about the
recipes and anecdotes than the major story arc.
The characters were very one dimensional to me.
Maybe it has something to do with how the story
was written. It was going for the
character being your “bestie” talking to you (the reader) about what she’s going
through when it used the first person narrative. First person narratives aren’t really my
thing. This was a “meh” book for me.
