This is the next novella under the Down The Rabbit Hole anthology. I
didn’t really understand the whole point of the story. Maybe this was part of a series that you
would only get if you’ve following it.
It’s pretty much about an ex-couple who lived in the 1800s
and they were teleported to the year 2005 by a magic coin. They spent one day and one night in the
future and then returned to their time period.
I don’t know what during their short trip to the future (other than
sleeping together in one bed?) convinced them that they were meant for each
other and decided to get married when they went back.
The only interesting thing in this novella is how the “future”
(slash our current time period) can be viewed by people from the past. Beyond the initial awe of seeing the
technology and improvements on infrastructures, I was interested on their
reactions to morality and gender roles.
I was surprised to see Alice’s disapproval of women having equal footing
as men and even helping out in the providing for the family. The feminist in me would’ve rejoiced on how
women now are more control of their life.
Instead, Alice was scared. I
guess it can be overwhelming for someone who grew up knowing she should be
protected and provided for to suddenly be expected to protect and provide for
herself.
